If you have spent any time looking for Japanese cam sites in English, you have probably run into both DX LIVE and SakuraLive. They look like rivals. In one important sense they are not: both are run by the same company, DTI, and their published point rates are identical to the decimal.
So the usual “which is cheaper” comparison is a dead end. The real question is narrower and more useful: how much Japanese are you willing to deal with? That is where these two genuinely differ, and it is the thing that decides which one you should open tonight.
The rates are the same. Not similar — the same.
This surprises people, so here it is side by side. SakuraLive’s figures come from its own FAQ page; DX LIVE’s come from its official pricing.
| What you are paying for | SakuraLive | DX LIVE |
|---|---|---|
| Regular chat | 1.2 points / min | 1.2 points / min |
| Private (2-shot) chat | 2.2 points / min | 2.2 points / min |
| 2-way (your camera on) | +0.5 points / 30 sec | +1 point / min |
| Secret message | 1 point each | 1 point each |
| Remote toy | 1 point / min | 1 point / min |
| Point expiry | 2 years | 2 years (24 months) |
Read the 2-way row carefully — +0.5 per 30 seconds is +1.0 per minute. It is the same number written a different way. Every line matches.
If you were hoping one of them was quietly cheaper, that hope is gone. Which is good news, actually: it means you can pick on the thing that matters instead of on price. For how the per-minute maths adds up in practice, see our budgeting guide.
The real difference: the interface, and translation
SakuraLive is built for people outside Japan. The site runs in English, Japanese and Chinese, and it advertises instant Japanese translation as a headline feature of the chat player. You are not bolting a browser extension onto a Japanese page — the translation is part of the product.
DX LIVE is built for a Japanese audience, and the site reflects that. There is far more of it to read, but it is Japanese-first. Foreigners use it happily every day, but you are working around the language rather than through a feature designed for you. We wrote about how to manage that in chatting without speaking Japanese.
That single difference cascades into everything else. If reading a Japanese menu drains you before you have even found someone to talk to, SakuraLive removes that friction. If you do not mind it — or you already know a little Japanese — DX LIVE stops being harder in any meaningful way.
Getting in: free points vs a $1 door
The two sites also disagree about how you should start.
- DX LIVE gives you 12 points free when you register, with no card required. At 1.2 points per minute that is ten minutes of paid streaming to spend however you like. See what the free trial actually covers.
- SakuraLive runs a $1 join offer instead. Its FAQ also notes that registration is not strictly required — you can buy points and start chatting.
Neither is a trick. They are two different answers to “how do we let someone try this?” — one removes the cost, the other removes the sign-up. If your instinct is to spend nothing before you know whether you like it, DX LIVE’s free points are the softer entry.
What we could not verify
An obvious question is whether the two sites share the same performers. We could not confirm that either way, so we are not going to assert it. DX LIVE profile URLs do not resolve on SakuraLive, but that may simply reflect different site architecture rather than different rosters.
We would rather leave a gap here than fill it with a guess. If you have used both and can tell, we would genuinely like to know.
What “instant translation” does and does not fix
It is worth being precise about this, because it is SakuraLive’s main selling point and it is easy to oversell. Translation solves the mechanical problem: you type in English, she reads Japanese, and neither of you has to stop and copy text into another tab. That is a genuine improvement over juggling windows mid-conversation.
What it does not solve is register. Japanese carries a lot of meaning in how polite you are being, which suffix you attach to her name, and how directly you ask for something. Machine translation flattens all of that. A sentence that reads as playful in English can land as blunt once it has been converted, and you will not see it happen.
So translation lowers the wall; it does not remove the need to be thoughtful. If you want the short version of what actually matters, our piece on how to address her covers more ground than any translator will.
A worked example, because per-minute pricing hides things
Rates per minute sound small until you stack the options. Take a twenty-minute session where you move into a private room for the last ten and turn your camera on for five of those.
| Segment | Rate | Length | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular chat | 1.2 / min | 10 min | 12.0 |
| Private chat | 2.2 / min | 5 min | 11.0 |
| Private + 2-way | 2.2 + 1.0 = 3.2 / min | 5 min | 16.0 |
| Total | 20 min | 39.0 |
Because the rate cards are identical, that arithmetic is the same on either site. The lesson is not about which one to pick — it is that the last five minutes cost more than the first ten. Knowing that in advance is most of the discipline.
Smaller differences that occasionally matter
- Support hours. SakuraLive lists customer support as 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. If something goes wrong with a payment on a Saturday, expect to wait.
- Age verification. SakuraLive states it verifies age using your credit card details. That is normal for the industry, but it does mean the $1 entry is not anonymous.
- Refunds. Its FAQ is blunt: points are non-refundable. DX LIVE works the same way — it is prepaid, so nothing gets billed later, but nothing gets given back either.
- Multiple rooms at once. SakuraLive explicitly says you can chat with several performers simultaneously. Your points drain in parallel when you do.
- Where they perform. Both present the same picture: performers streaming from home rather than from a studio floor. That is a large part of why the tone differs from Western cam sites — something we unpack in Japanese vs Western cam sites.
Why one company runs two of these
It looks odd until you see the shape of the business. DTI operates a large family of adult sites — video services, live chat, and several regional storefronts — rather than one product with one front door. Running an English-and-Chinese-facing live chat alongside a Japanese-facing one is the same logic that gives a video service a separate site per genre.
The practical consequence for you is the useful part: you are not choosing between a big established platform and a risky unknown. Both sit inside the same operation, with the same prepaid model and the same refund policy. The stakes of picking “wrong” are low.
Which one should you actually open?
| If this is you… | Start with |
|---|---|
| The Japanese interface is the thing stopping you | SakuraLive |
| You want built-in translation rather than workarounds | SakuraLive |
| You read Chinese and want the interface in it | SakuraLive |
| You want to spend literally nothing to look around first | DX LIVE |
| You are happy to navigate a Japanese site | DX LIVE |
| You want the deeper English guides and lists we maintain | DX LIVE |
There is no rule that says you must choose. Points on one do not transfer to the other, so the only real cost of trying both is your attention.
Two things that are true on either site
She can say no. Owning a toy, listing a language, or being in a paid room does not mean every request is accepted. This is the single most common way foreigners waste points — see our guide to the behaviours that get you ignored.
Rates are per minute, not per session. The clock does not stop because the conversation went quiet. Deciding your limit before you log in works better than deciding it while you are in a room.
Ready to try?
Both are adult services for users 18 and over. Prices and offers were checked in August 2026 — confirm the current terms on each site before you buy points.
